Morley Library: 2023 Highlights
- Collaborated with the Lake County General Health District, the City of Painesville, the State Library of Ohio, the Friends of Morley Library, and Boy Scout Troop #62 to install a new StoryWalk at Kiwanis Recreation Park.
- Introduced a Seed Library in the 3rd floor rotunda. Community members are welcome to take seeds and replenish the supply with donations.
- Partnered with Girl Scout Troop 70197 to install a Little Free Pantry on library property.
- Hosted authors: Romona Robinson, Cathy Seckman, Abby Collette, Thrity Umrigar, Vince Guerrieri, and Annie Zaleski.
- Partnered with HOLA on the RISE (Read In Summer and Excel) summer enrichment program for children.
- Launched a Self-Care Station in the Children's Department, where individuals can discreetly obtain personal hygiene products for free anytime the library is open. This project is made possible by generous community donations.
- Participated in community events including: Lake County Fair, Concord Community Days, Painesville Township Family Fun Day, Lake County Pride, Painesville City's Fall Fest, HOLA's Cinco de Mayo Festival, and the Downtown Painesville Holiday Shop & Stroll.
- Offered two new circulating collections:
- Outreach collection of children's board games for Forbes House and Project Hope
- Brain Builder Boxes for kindergarten readiness
- Continued providing a permanent library collection for students at Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
- Updated the library's Strategic Plan using information gathered via community surveys and library staff and Board workshops facilitated by the Northeast Ohio Regional Library System.
- Collaborated with Signature Health on a monthly lobby table providing free rapid testing for HIV and Hepatitis C, sex education, risk and harm reduction, immediate linkage to services for STI testing and treatment, free condoms, and fentanyl test strips.
