Teen Reviews
Books:
XXXholic
by Clamp - Very good and weird.
Adam, Riverside H. S. grade 10
Eragon
by Christopher Paolini – “Better than the movie!”
Lori, Riverside H. S. grade 12
Chronicles
of Ancient Darkness, Book 1 - Wolf Brother
by Michelle Paver – “A powerful story about a boy growing up in the
Stone Age. He lost his father to an angry demon, and must find a
mountain no one has ever seen, three legendary objects of power, and
an unlikely guide to lead the way. The plot is heartbreaking at
times, and fast-paced with a story that tells itself. I recommend
this book and series to those of almost any age who can appreciate a
good man vs. world story.”
Jennifer, Riverside H. S. grade 11
A Child
Called It by David Pelzer
– “This book is about a kid who was abused and neglected for most of
his childhood and had to live in almost unbearable conditions. It’s
a really good book!”
Ashley – Riverside H. S. grade 10
Movies:
For the Love
of a Child – “A very good movie! It’s about a couple of
teen/adult girls who start a place for needy kids – a place for them
to live and be happy.”
Ashley – Riverside H. S. grade 10
Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest
- "Excellent movie, especially Davy Jones, the Kracken and the
Flying Dutchman."
Ian - (no school listed) grade 9
Schindler’s
List – “Very good movie about the Holocaust. It was really sad
and it made me cry a lot while I was watching it, but it’s very good
to see that there were good people working against the Nazis. It
was a little graphic so I wouldn’t recommend it for younger children
but for people my age and adults. It is a very good movie.”
Sam – Riverside H. S. grade 10
Music:
The Lost.
The Sick. The Sacred. by Inhale Exhale – “This debut release
from Inhale Exhale is a non-stop aural assault. It is probably the
first true thrash-metal band to be released by Solid State. They
combine great riffs with deep vocals. Definitely a must hear.”
Jareth – Harvey H. S. grade 11
The
Raconteurs by The Raconteurs – “The Raconteurs (comprised most
notably of Jack White of the White Stripes) are off to a great start
with their self-titled debut. With their single, “Steady as She
Goes” leading the pack, the album is well equipped with creative,
likeable of downright catchy hooks. ***** out of 5!
