OBITUARIES

The index to death notices appearing in the Painesville Telegraph, 16 July 1822--30 April 1986, and in the News-Herald, 25 March 1986 to the present, is found in the Genealogy and Local History Room.

This index is currently being transferred to a searchable online database. Presently all obituaries from 1 January 1998 to the present are online and along with those from A through L for the period of 1830 through 1997. Click on the button below to go to the Obituary Index.

Cleveland Public Library has two tools to help locate local death notices and obituaries. One is the Cleveland Necrology File, an online database of Cleveland area death notices from circa 1850 to 1975. The other is the Cleveland News Index. This includes entries in the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Cleveland Press from 1976 to the present.
