GENEALOGY & LOCAL HISTORY COLLECTIONS

CEMETERY RECORDS

Sexton records available for Painesville include Washington Street Cemetery, 1847-1865, and Evergreen Cemetery, 1860-1908, and 1909-1952 [index only].

Cemetery inscriptions cover the following areas: Lake County [except Fairport Cemetery and St. Mary's Cemetery in Painesville], compiled 1926-1929; St. Mary's Cemetery, Painesville, compiled 1983; and Riverside Cemetery, Painesville, compiled 1990-1995.

The Lake County Genealogical Society, A Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society has been working on several projects to benefit those researching in Lake County.  One of these projects is reading the gravestones all over Lake County.  The townships, as they were about 1840, were read in alphabetical order. Cemetery histories and descriptions have been provided. Complete stone inscriptions are included along with stone condition, flag holders, emblems and decorations.  To access this database follow this link to the Lake County Genealogical Society (Ohio) Projects Site.
