BIRTH
RECORDS
Births were not recorded in the
State of Ohio before 1867. From 1867-1908 birth were noted by the County Probate
Court; however this file is incomplete. From 1908 birth records are maintained
by the County Bureau of Vital Statistics.
Morley Library has an index to birth
notices that appeared in the Painesville Telegraph from 1887-1900.
"Corrected or Omitted
Births" for Lake County, registered from 1941-1954, are also available.
These are usually for persons born in the late 19th century through the early
1950s who did not have a birth certificate.
