Download eBooks to your iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch)

Before you start,

This is written for newer Apple devices running iOS software.  This includes iPad 1 & 2, iPhone (3G or newer), or iPod Touch (2nd generation or newer).  If you have an older iPhone or different iPod, you can only put audiobooks on it.

From the App Store, download OverDrive Media Console (it's free).  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id366869252?mt=8

You’ll also want to have a free Adobe ID account (Adobe requires it to authenticate OverDrive Media Console).  You can do that at http://goo.gl/kDgqm.

·         Open the OverDrive Media Console app.

·         In the top-right corner, there is a button that says “Get Books +”.  Press that button.

·         Press where it says “Add a Library”.

·         Type “Morley Library” and press Search.

·         Select Morley Library.

·         Press the star (this will save Morley for future use).

·         Now press the rest of the box, this will bring you to our mobile OverDrive site.  You can also access our site from a computer by going to http://morley.lib.overdrive.com

·         Find eBooks by pressing either BROWSE or SEARCH.  BROWSE will let you search through our entire collection while SEARCH will allow you to look for a specific author, title, etc.

·         EPUB and Kindle formats both work on iOS devices, but in different ways.  EPUB editions can be checked out directly and will download into OverDrive Media Console for immediate reading.  Use of a Kindle edition requires you to have an amazon.com account and to download the Kindle app from the App Store.  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id302584613?mt=8  For simplicity, we’ll cover EPUBs and Kindle books separately (Kindle how to is below).

·         Select a book you want and make sure it’s available in EPUB format.

·         Click on the “Add to Cart” button for the EPUB edition.

·         You will be taken to your cart; you can click on “Continue Browsing” to select more books or “Proceed to Checkout” to get your book.

·         If you haven’t already logged in, you will be prompted to enter your 14-digit Morley Library card number.

·         At the “Check Out” screen, you will be able to select a 7-day or 14-day checkout period for your book.  You can also remove items you no longer want.  Once you are ready, click on the “Confirm Check Out” button.

·         You will then be taken to the “My Current Checkouts” screen.  Your selected book will have a “Download” button.  Once you press this button, your web browser will close and OverDrive Media Console will reopen.  The eBook will download into the program.

·         Just press anywhere in the box to read the eBook.

·         When you’re finished and would like to delete the eBook, just swipe across it (left to right) and press Delete.  You will have the choice of “Return then Delete” (which takes the eBook off your account immediately) or “Delete only.”
