How does the reading club work?

Your child will keep track of the time he/she reads (or is read to) on her READING LOG.  Please bring your child’s reading log to the library each time she visits so the staff can stamp and date it.  For every hour a child reads (or is read to), he will receive an entry for our Dream Big Prize  Drawing which will take place at the end of our Summer Reading Club.

When can we register for the Summer Reading Club?

Registration beings Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in the Children’s Room at Morley Library.  Your child will receive a reading log at that time.  At that time you can register for any of our storytimes or special programs.

When can my child start bringing her reading log to the library to be stamped?

The first day is Monday, June 4, 2012.  The last day of the Summer Reading Club is Friday, July 27, 2012 before 5:30 pm.

Does my child have to be able to read before she can sign up for the summer reading club?

No, children as young as 18 months can be read to by an adult or an older sibling.  The reading time may be recorded on both the preschooler’s and the older sibling’s Reading Logs.

Do the books that my child reads for the summer reading club have to be books that we check out of Morley Library?

We ask that the majority of books that your child reads during our summer reading club be books that you actually check-out. Much of our funding is based on circulation figures so we need your help keeping the Library a vital part of this community.

Do the books that my child read during the school year count?

They count if your child re-reads them during the Summer Reading Club and you check them out of Morley Library.

How do the tokens and the prize machine work?

To receive a weekly token for the prize machine (like a gumball machine), kids have to read a minimum of 1 hour and present their Reading Log to be stamped.  Regardless of how many hours a child reads or how many visits she makes in a week, she will receive only one token a week.

Do you teach reading at the library during the summer reading club?

No, we do not.  Our summer reading club is a read-at-home incentive program intended to maintain reading skills and have fun at the same time. 

How do I know if my child has won a prize?

The drawing will take place on Wednesday August 3, 2011. We will telephone you if your child wins.  Make sure your child fills in her telephone number on the prize drawing ticket.  Prizes not claimed by September 30, 2011 will be forfeited.  Morley Library reserves the right to substitute a prize if the original prize is unavailable.
